This 50-kilometer route is the perfect course to start gravel riding, as it will introduce you to all kinds of trails: singletracks, gravel roads, dirt paths, and asphalt. If you had a long ride the day before, it’s also a good way to recover!
This route will take you through various small villages in the area, such as Juigné-sur-Loire, Blaison-Gohier, and Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire.
During the summer season, the Sports Photography Festival, “1000emedesecondes,” exhibits the work of 10 professional photographers outdoors. Over 150 photos capture the actions and emotions of major sporting events such as the Tour de France, Vendée Globe, Formula 1 Grand Prix… An opportunity to take a break and feast your eyes!
Halfway through, you’ll get out of the trails for a few kilometers to reach the village of Blaison-Gohier. This charming village with its castle and a very friendly restaurant, Le Petit Blaison.
If you prefer to stay on the trails, you can simply continue straight ahead and join the trail with a sandy section leading to Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire.
From Saint-Mathurin to La Daguenière, you’ll follow the Loire River on a gravel path, below the levee, for about ten kilometers. At the end of the path, there are three steps to help you join the road on La Levée de Belle Poule. Although this road is reserved for residents and therefore not a lot of cars take it, please remain cautious!
Afterward, you have two options to reach Les Ponts-de-Cé: continue on La Levée or turn right as indicated by the trail onto a gravel path.
You’ll then get back on your steps to return to Angers.
You can find other rides near Angers here, either a 100km through the vineyards or a 100km along the rivers 🙂
